Our Paver Stripping Process
Why Our Customers Love Perfect Paver Co
”Our job required the Perfect Paver Co team to remove, clean, repair foundation, and reset pavers on an extremely buckled paver sidewalk. This residential sidewalk was in such ill repair I feared it would never look the way it should. Happily, I discovered the reason why the company is called Perfect Paver. Their name accurately represents the quality and result of their work. Everyone I spoke with beginning with my first phone call was professional and timely in their response. We truly appreciated the craftsmanship of the work. I would not hesitate to recommend Perfect Paver Co.

”Everything went well with our paver project. The Perfect Paver Co team was very responsive, the salesperson who priced our project was very helpful and provided valuable insight. An added bonus was that our project was completed faster than the 6 week lead time we were quoted when we signed the proposal. The technician, Zac, was extremely responsive in setting up the time for our cleaning/stripping, sanding, and sealing, even providing real time GPS updates for his arrival. Zac did a terrific job on our patio; it looks new again. We have now dealt with 4 different paver service companies. Perfect Paver Co is the best, by a wide margin. We will definitely use them again when the time comes.

”Our four year old travertine pool deck and lanai has beautiful patterned stone. It was never properly coated as I did not find a company that could properly do it with the right material. I then saw a Google review for Perfect Paver Co online, contacted them… I had Perfect Paver Co clean, strip and reseal all of my pavers. The deck had spots of algae, black mold, mildew, mineral stains and fading from intense sunlight. They cleaned the deck…got all the crud and stains off the tiles. They cleaned the stains and hard to get spots with cleaning spray. I received a couple of quotes on the job, and while Perfect Paver Co was not the cheapest, my patio looks like the deck was just installed. I also got great tips on how to clean and maintain my deck and a guarantee of their work. In short, I can highly recommend Perfect Paver Co. Ethan and Ron did exactly what was promised and did it in two days and the results are beyond my expectations. The techs did a great job, were friendly and professional and the results are amazing. Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions About Paver Stripping
Do I need to remove old paver sealer before resealing?
In most cases, yes.
If the existing sealer is failing, incompatible, or was applied incorrectly, it should be removed before applying a new sealer. Skipping this step can lead to uneven appearance, poor adhesion, and premature failure of the new sealer.
Stripping ensures the surface is properly prepared so the new sealer performs the way it should.
Why can’t you just apply a new sealer over the old one?
Applying new sealer over a failing or incompatible sealer often makes the problem worse.
It can trap imperfections underneath, create blotchy or cloudy areas, and prevent the new sealer from bonding properly. This leads to inconsistent results and can cause the sealer to fail again more quickly.
What are signs that my pavers need sealer stripping?
Common signs include:
- White or cloudy appearance (often called “blushing”)
- Peeling or flaking sealer
- Uneven or blotchy color
- Areas that look overly glossy or dull in spots
If you’re noticing any of these, the existing sealer likely needs to be removed.
What causes paver sealer to fail?
Sealer failure is usually caused by improper application, using the wrong product, or applying sealer over a surface that wasn’t properly prepared.
Environmental conditions, moisture, and incompatible layers of sealer can also lead to issues over time.
Will stripping damage my pavers?
No—not when done properly.
Our process is designed to safely remove the existing sealer without damaging the pavers or natural stone. The goal is to return the surface as close as possible to its original condition so it can be properly restored.
Will my pavers look better after stripping?
Yes. Removing a failed sealer can significantly improve the appearance by eliminating haze, uneven color, and buildup.
Once stripped, the surface can be properly cleaned and resealed to restore a clean, uniform look.
Do all paver projects require sealer stripping?
No. If the existing sealer is still performing well and is compatible, stripping may not be necessary.
However, if we didn’t apply the original sealer, we typically recommend evaluating it closely. In many cases, stripping is the best way to ensure consistent, long-term results.
What happens after the sealer is removed?
After stripping, we clean the surface thoroughly, stabilize the joints if needed, and apply a new sealer designed to enhance and protect the pavers.
This full process ensures the final result looks better and lasts longer.
How long does paver sealer stripping take?
Timing depends on the size of the area and the condition of the existing sealer. We’ll outline the process and timeline during your estimate.
Do you use subcontractors for sealer stripping?
No. All work is completed by trained Perfect Paver Co team members to ensure consistent quality and proper handling of the process.
I’m not sure if my sealer is failing—can you take a look?
Absolutely. We’ll evaluate your pavers, identify any issues with the existing sealer, and recommend the best approach to restore your surface properly.
Is the white or cloudy appearance on my pavers efflorescence or failed sealer?
It can be difficult to tell—and the two are often confused.
Efflorescence is a naturally occurring condition where salts within the pavers are drawn to the surface by moisture, leaving behind a white or hazy residue. This can sometimes look very similar to a failing sealer.
In order to properly address efflorescence, the existing sealer typically needs to be removed to allow the pavers to “breathe” and release the salts. However, there’s no guarantee the efflorescence will fully go away or that it won’t return over time—but removing the sealer is the necessary first step to evaluate and manage it.
On the other hand, many surfaces that appear to have efflorescence are actually experiencing sealer failure, which is more straightforward to fix. In these cases, stripping the failing sealer and applying a new system will restore a clean, uniform appearance.
The best way to know the difference is to have the surface evaluated so the correct solution can be applied.
